OBJECTIVE #1
Create garden space as open space becomes available
ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN:
- Usage of neighborhood maps to
ensure green space is strategically placed based on demolition
- Additional usage of open space for
community gardens and beautification programs (floral and shrubs)

OBJECTIVE #2
Increase the usage, security and lighting of Hayden Park
ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN:
- Learn the particulars regarding
the park trust
- Have annual neighborhood picnic in
the park
- Have concerts in the park
- Use money the City is receiving
from the utilities settlement to improve park lighting
- Provide foot and bike patrols
during the summer months
- Periodic meetings with Park
Department to review status of projects
- Install signs with historic focus
and open hours at both entrances
- Work to create increasing parking
convenient to the park

OBJECTIVE #3
Acquire a playground for Driggs school
ACTION TO BE TAKEN:
- Request a feasibility study to
convert property on Buckingham Street or Driggs parking lot into a playground site

OBJECTIVE #4
Increase neighborhood use of existing resources
ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN:
- Increase utilization of YMCA
scholarships for youth
- Use churches for meetings and
recreational opportunities
- Continued utilization of UConn
campus facilities
- UConn site as a potential cultural
center
- Encourage State Legislature to
expand UConn branch facility including the creation of a 250 seat theater
- Renovate first floor of Benedict
Miller House into an historical museum and work with UConn to determine usage for the
remainder of the building

OBJECTIVE #5
Increase cultural opportunities for children in the neighborhood
ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN:
- Wayland Mansion as potential
children's museum
- Turn abandoned building into a
children's branch of the library
